and nice. That's the perfect way to describe the Lacing Peg Puzzle, the handcrafted plywood plug-in for busy fingers. Designed for children 4 years and older, its "pictures under pieces" construction allows young hands to assemble a quartet of funky footwear. The component pieces are inserted into the appropriate well in the board, atop a similarly colored matching sock (one of which reveals a hole in its toe). When a combination--a boot, a ballet slipper, a sneaker, or a roller skate--is put together, a child can then practice threading and tying the matching laces through the toggles on the puzzle pieces. With the Lacing Peg Puzzle, a youngster's best foot forward is all in the fingers.
